Thinking about Botox® for the first time? You’re not alone. Most people have questions before scheduling their first treatment, and that’s exactly what this guide is for.
At Gifted Medspa, we want you to feel informed, comfortable, and excited about the process.
What is Botox® and how does it work?
Clinically speaking, Botox is a neuromodulator, but it’s easier to think of Botox as a short “time-out” for overactive facial muscles.
When those muscles take a break, the skin above them relaxes and looks smoother. That’s why frown lines, forehead creases, and crow’s feet become less noticeable after treatment.
Botox has been FDA-approved for years and is trusted worldwide for both cosmetic and medical uses when administered by a licensed professional.
What areas does Botox® treat?
The most common treatment areas include:
- Forehead lines
- Frown lines between the brows (“11s”)
- Crow’s feet around the eyes
Will Botox® hurt?
Yes and no. Because we use extremely fine needles, the pain is minimal. Most people describe it as a quick pinch. If you’re concerned about discomfort, we can apply a numbing cream or ice beforehand.
How long does a Botox® appointment take?
There is a reason Botox is called a “lunchtime procedure.”
Your first appointment takes about 20–30 minutes, including consultation, discussion of your goals, and the injections themselves. Once you’re done, you can get right back to your day as usual.
Is there downtime after Botox®?
There is little to no downtime after your procedure. You might notice slight redness or swelling at the injection sites, but that usually fades within a few hours. To get the best results, take a few simple precautions:
- Skip strenuous exercise for 4–6 hours.
- Avoid alcohol on the day of treatment.
- Don’t lie down immediately after injections.
How many units of Botox® will I need?
How many units you’ll need depends on your facial muscles and treatment goals. Every patient is different, which is why we require a consultation. Creating a personalized plan ensures your results look natural and help you achieve your goals.
For an estimate, most patients fall within these ranges:
- Forehead lines: 10–20 units
- Frown lines: 20–25 units
- Crow’s feet: 10–15 units per side
How soon will I see results?

Unlike dermal fillers, which show results right away, Botox works more gradually. Most people begin seeing differences within the first 3-5 days, with the full effect appearing in about two weeks.
How long does Botox® last?
On average, Botox results last 3–4 months. Many patients find that with consistent treatments, their results begin to hold longer. To keep your look fresh, we’ll recommend a follow-up schedule tailored to you.
Can Botox® be removed or reversed?
Botox cannot be “removed” once it’s injected, but the good news is its effects are temporary. Over time, the treated muscles gradually return to their natural activity.
At Gifted Medspa, our providers take a conservative approach for first-time treatments. This ensures your results look natural, never overdone.
We also schedule a 2-week follow-up appointment where adjustments can be made. This helps us fine-tune your treatment so you get the look you want.
How should I prepare for Botox®?
Preparing for Botox is pretty simple. Still, there are a few simple steps make sure your treatment goes smoothly:
- Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements (if approved by your doctor).
- Skip alcohol for 24 hours before.
- Arrive with a clean face, free of makeup or heavy skincare products.
If you’d like more information before your first appointment, review our Spa Etiquette Guide, which covers everything from what to expect at your first visit to how to prepare for treatment day.

Botox is both a science and an art, which is why the provider you choose matters.
